Closed size is 6.5" x 5" (16.5 cm x 12.7 cm) -- fits easily into a purse or backpack.
Oh my gosh! Can I tell you how yummy this fabric is? It's another new piece that was saved from the landfill... and aren't we glad of that? It's a rich chocolate brown shantung and I've lined it with a yummy chenille, then did up the edges in a regal red cotton quilting fabric. (hand made bias)
There are pockets inside for two pens, or several pencils or even markers. The book is held securely in place with a pocket on the left and a strap on the right. I am including a 200 page, four subject book. It is lined and wire bound so that it lays flat when you are taking notes, making lists, jotting down phone numbers, or journaling to go with those great photos you just took.
It closes with a big red button from my button stash (you have one of these too?) and an elastic.
