Sketch Frenzy Friday - SSF091710

U-light-up-my-world

My friend Sharon posted her 10 minute card for this challenge and so I thought I’d give it a try.  The sketch is unusual (see below) so I looked at it for a moment before something hit me.  Sharon had mentioned how it looked like a moon peeking out but it looked more like a sun to me.  SO … I followed that with what the sun could be peeking around and a tree just had to be.

This is a digital card, so I used shapes to create the hills.  I filled them with color and texturized them.  The tree shape is a cloud flipped on it’s side.  That’s filled with one of my own designer papers and and then overlayed with another.  The trunk is hand sketched (on the screen) but modeled after the tree in the Forest Friends stamp set by SU.

The chipboard letter is an interesting technique in photoshop.

Chipboard Letter in Photoshop
  • Choose a chunky font and type in your chosen letter
  • Fill with digital paper, color or texture of your choice
  • Apply layer style Bevel/Emboss
  • Create a new layer over the letter, select the letter by holding the CTRL key and clicking on the letter in the layer palate
  • Fill the selection (on new layer) with gold
  • Change layer to overlay blending mode and apply an inner stroke in a dark gold color.
  • Copy layer (CTRL + J), select letter and fill with dark brown.  Deselect (CTRL + D) and move this layer down below the first letter layer.
  • Use arrow keys to move it over and down (in the direction of your shadows) to give the illusion of a 3D element

The fonts used today are – Big Sledge Hammer, Downcome and Batik Regular.

That’s it!  Here’s the original sketch – you can click on it to go to the challenge.  How’d I do?
