Best Time of Day Page Prompt and Video

BTOD-Polaroid

Art Journal Prompt:  Best Time of Day

Instructions:

Journal about your Best Time of Day.  Illustrate it, write about it… whatever works for you.

Example Page:

Best-Time-of-Day

How this example was done:

Here’s the video of how I did my page:

First step – Background.

  • Tape – to seal the seam
  • Gesso – to seal the paper
  • Black Paint – to set the time of day

Second step – Painting The Scene.  Layers Layers Layers.  It takes layers to do anything… if you don’t do the layers you won’t be as happy with the results.

  • Dark Blue Gaze – 3 Layers!!!  Yes, three.  I did this three time with a frayed brush, drying each time.  I made each layer smaller than the last.
  • Black Glaze – 1 Layer.  I did one layer of black glaze over the water to separate it from the sky and darken it.
  • Titan Buff Wash – 2 Layers.  I did two thin layers of titan buff for the sand and rubbed the edges off so it faded away.
  • Moon – Pure white, slightly thinned liquid acrylic on a flat brush.  The dark paint underneath created all the texture of the moon… EASY!
  • Moon Glow – thin thin thin medium blue glaze, swirled around the moon.
  • Light on the Water – this took several layers of progressively darker paint.
  • Clouds – Medium/dark blue on my brush – pounced and squiggled to create the clouds.  You can also do these in a thin white wash in front of the moon… it’s all in perspective.
  • Stars – I used a toothbrush and thin white paint to splatter in some stars
  • Sand highlights – stronger buff paint to create highlights in the sand

Third step – Journaling.  I used my dip pen and delicious metallic blue ink to do the title and journaling.

Supplies used today:

A Word from Tee:

Sometimes I just want to PAINT!  Don’t think you can’t do this…. grab a brush and try.  That’s what your journal is all about.. pushing your limits and finding yourself.

What’s that you say??

I LOVE hearing from you guys.. .however I got a few notes that people didn’t find a way to leave comments on the posts.
