Art Journal Prompt:  Drawing

Instructions:

Add a drawing that is easy and loose to your page today.

Example Page:

How this example was done:

I am participating in the 21 Secrets Course and joined Jane Davenport’s Workshop yesterday.  Her style of drawing is loose and easy with implied features.  Her blog is filled with beautiful works of art.. and I had to search to find some that were like the things she showed us in the workshop.  You can see those posts here and here.  The last one talks about the workshop.

So…. I chose to do my page in Jane’s loose style.

Here’s the video of how I did my page:

First step – Background.  I’m working with one of my readers and thought I’d show how to create a loose blowing er…. flowing that is… multicolored background done in acrylic.

  • Gesso
  • Glazes – I used glazing liquid with my craft paint to apply the colors and let them flow and blend. You can use water to thin if you don’t have glazing liquid or You can make your own... Pour equal amounts of paint thinner and linseed oil into the jar, screw on the lid and shake a LOT.

I used cross hatch strokes to spread and blend the paint.

Second step – Drawing.  I used a waterbrush with black acrylic ink to draw a face with implied features.

Third step – Tint.  Next I added some color to the drawing with inktense pencils and neocolors.

Fourth step – Journaling.  I did a bit of journaling with the waterbrush too… it’s easy to use.
