Art Journal Prompt: Mandala
Instructions:
Feature a Mandala on your page today.
What is a Mandala? Mandala is a Sanskrit word that means "circle". Barbara Hagarty taught me to find them (mandalas) everywhere. So.. even this painting that I did… is a Mandala.
What does this mean for you… that you can draw a doodled image like I did.. or use textural or perceptual circles on your pages.
Example Page:
And here it is in the sun… shown by my sweet guy, Bob.
I’d hoped that the sunshine shot would show the sparkle but it doesn't.

How this example was done:
| First step – Background. I wanted bright colors but I wanted them to blend and flow from one to the other.
|
| Second step – Mandala. In my Delirious for Dip Pens class on Saturday, we were doing things to get more familiar and comfortable with our dip pens. We decided to do a mandala on our page. I’m new to Mandalas even though I’ve been doodling them for a long time without knowing that it had a name.
Mine was done with one color and then accented and enhanced with another…. the challenge was to do it all with a dip pen though. You can add that challenge to your own page today if you like. FREE Mandala Class!!! Now, I won’t go into detail on how to do them… but let me give you a link to a free class at Wild Precious Studio by Barbara Hagerty. Barbara started the class a while ago, but it’s never too late to join. I’ll confess that I did the first prompt and then life happened and I’ve not been able to go back. Sooooo, if you join the class we’ll pretty much be doing it together.. .from the beginning!
|
| Third step – Heart Rose. This was a happy accident. The heart was just there in my background when I finished and I liked it… plus this song kept playing in my head when I saw the heart… so it had to become a flower. Here’s the song:
|
| Fourth step – Title. Well that had to be from the song that was in my head.

ReplyDeleteLOL Kathy! You are going to have the wildest counter tops in Texas! You'll end up on that "What's up with THAT house?" show! *grin*
For anybody who doesn't know... Kathy --- wonderful Kathy --- has been talking about some of the stuff we've been doing being great to do and embed in a resin counter top.
ReplyDelete*listens to the owwwwwwws and ahhhhhhhhhs*
I know right! Just imagine how awesome that would be! She's so creative! It's all her, cause I would not have thought to embed it in resin without her!
Your journal pages are awesome, Tee! I'm partial to two-page spreads, and your rose, mandala, and gorgeous colors are fabulous and yummy!

I hope you won't do the dip-pen class on Facebook. There are quite a lot of us out there who don't use Facebook and don't want to do so, and it would be a pity to exclude us.
ReplyDelete@jennykThanks for letting me know your preference Jenny! That's why I asked the question.... what you guys need or want is super important to me!
ReplyDeleteI love this page, and I really like how your rose turned out. I made my first mandala. It was so easy, I can't believe I never thought to try it before. Thank you for all of the great resources, inspiration and ideas!
ReplyDeleteWonderful work!
