Opposites Prompt Page and Demo Video

 Opposites-Polaroid

Art Journal Prompt:  Opposites

Instructions:

Pick a pair of opposites and use them in your page today.

Example Page:

Opposites

How this example was done:

Here’s the video of how I did my page:

First step – Background.  Simple one today.  Started with gesso then added green neocolor and dried it.  Then I did blue neocolor over the green and blended.

Second step – Collage.  I put on two paint chips that are opposites on the color wheel.  It was just luck that they were exactly the height of my page.

Third step – Paint. I painted circles using the deepest colors on the chips… but first I masked off the paint chips so I didn’t paint over them.

Fourth step – Doodle.  I was hoping the brown marker would work.. but no luck.  So I went to my trusty dip pen and drew the outlines for the framework for my mandalas.  Then I added color and more doodles to make ‘em pop.

Fifth step – Journaling.  Finally I did the journaling.. with today is really just a title.

Supplies used today:

A Word from Tee:

All I had when I sat down this morning was that I wanted to used the paint chips… but I like how it turned out.  I like the colors a lot and all the patterns keep the eye moving.

We camped in the back yard last night and it was in the 50’s overnight.  My joints are sore this morning so an easy page is good for me.. and I do listen when you guys tell me you would like some of those too.

Off to make some coffee… Have a great Saturday!

5 Wickedly Awesome People had stuff to say!:

  1. Thanks Tee,
    This was a great video!
How did you set and move the paint around?
I couldn't quite that on the video.

  2. @Frog and Beef

Hey! I'm not sure where in the video you mean so I'll cover a few of the things I did. If you are talking about the background, I used a wet paper towel. The water activates the neocolor II crayons to become paint and allows it to be moved. Plus when it's dry, it's permanent. Love that!!!

Later, when I did the green on the Mandala, I used Inktense Pencils and they are activated and set with water as well. That time I used a wet brush to move the ink and set it.

Sorry if I wasn't clear... thanks for letting me know and I'll try to do better on the next one!
