Sweet Art Journal Page and Prompt

Sweet-Polaroid

Art Journal Prompt:  Sweet

Instructions:

Show something sweet on your page today.

Sweet can be many things from pastries and dainties to how a person acts or… in my case.. how I feel about doing art with my children and with you all.

Example Page:

Sweet

How this example was done:

First step – Background.  Simple today.. I only covered the page in gesso.

Second step – Gel Transfer.  there are two but I did the second one later. First I put on my daughter’s little painting.

  1. Apply Gel to the surface in a generous layer.  (we are not talking thick here but I could smudge it off with my finger and see a line in the gel where I removed some of it)
  2. Apply image face down
  3. Burnish – Start in the center and work your way out with a bone folder or a credit card edge.  You want to push the image into the gel firmly.  If any comes out the sides, clean the edge before you do another pass
  4. Wait – I waited about 90 seconds on this one
  5. Peel – I pulled the paper away (you can tell it was on school notebook paper).

The image left was not perfect.. it didn’t even have all the paper removed.. but I LIKE IT.  It looks rough and old and I can see the paper she drew it on.  so… no rubbing the paper away this time.

Third step – Collage.  I added this title from a magazine.  It was a lot brighter than this so I did a wash of thin white acrylic paint over it to tone it down.

Fourth step – Blend and Paint Background.  I used my finger to put on two blue tones and some white paint over and around the collage and faded it as it got closer to the transfer.

Fifth step – Color.  The gel transferred image blended too well with the background so I went around it with a dark rose color ink tense pencil. LIGHTLY!!  Then blended that out and feathered the outside edge of it with a waterbrush.

Sixth step – Transfer.  I did another transfer with a flower drawn by Marsha Hatcher – sent home on another note about Joey.  You know I can’t throw these goodies away right????

It was also on notebook paper but this time after I peeled the paper away I rubbed the image with my finger to remove more paper.  It worked like a charm… no water at all.

Tee’s Tip:  Try rubbing your paper away from your transfers without adding water first.  You might have better success!

Seventh step – Journaling.  Dip pen.. of course.  I used my new glass one too.

3 Wickedly Awesome People had stuff to say!:

  1. Love the transfer idea. I'll have to try that at some point.

I'm very frustrated. I'm having problems with my blog and I can't post anything new!!! I spent a half hour yesterday with a technology expert at the public library and he couldn't figure out what the problem is. I contacted blogger but so far that hasn't been any help. My fake blog about Angelina works fine, so I know it isn't the computer!!!
