Too Fast Art Journal Page and Prompt

Too-fast-Polaroid

Art Journal Prompt:  Too Fast

Instructions:

Show something that you thought happened too fast in your page today.

Example Page:too-Fast-take-two

How I Made My page:

Morgan had made this little papoose and the paper tore while she was coloring it.. so she fixed it with tape.  (grin)  It’s mostly tape now.  heh.  So when she was ready to throw it away… I snagged it

First step – Insert Page.  I created a page to go into the book that was a loose sheet.  Mine is watercolor paper, but you could use a doubled sheet of regular paper, scrapbooking paper or card stock.

  • Background – First I did some neocolors on the watercolor paper in blue, pink and green.  Just really light colors.
  • Collage – Next I collaged on Morgan's art with gel medium
  • Cut pages – I cut out a couple of pages from my book and left stumps near the spine of the book to use to glue onto either side of the insert page.
  • Adhere – I used gel medium to put the page in, but you can use glue.

Second step – Background on the other page.

  • Brown Paint – I brushed some brown paint on the left page and over the cut pages at the center of the picture
  • Yellow Paint – I sponged on some yellow paint over all the page
  • Dotty – I used a mask to sponge on some dots with white and yellow paint on the sponge.
  • Soften – I did blue and ochre glazes over the page.  (a glaze is thin paint, I used glazing medium but you can use floating medium {available at wally world} or water)

Third step – Collage.  I used scrapbooking paper and some stickers to add a journaling spot and visual interest to the pages

Fourth step – Doodle.  Pitt pens came out for today’s doodles.  It was easy to use them over all the stuff on the page.

Fifth step –  Journaling.  Acrylic ink and a dip pen.. what else?  LOL I wrote about how my kids grew up too fast and how it was worse with the boys.. they didn’t come into my life until they were half grown already.

Sixth step – More.  I had stopped there this morning.. but the page needed … MORE.  So… I went back and added more with portfolio oil pastels.

I may not be finished yet either… just wanted to update with the current images.

A Word from Tee:

What happens too fast for you?  Happy Easter if you celebrate it.. and happy weekend if you don’t!

Ok. I got a private massage that said my page was boring.  Seriously?? You know what?? YOU CAN JUST GO and write to me and tell me that anytime!  *lol*   It was boring… it wasn’t finished and it wasn’t me.  It’s still not done and may undergo several more changes before I like it.

6 Wickedly Awesome People had stuff to say!:

  1. Kids do grow up too fast! I was just thinking that yesterday when my oldest did not want to color easter eggs! Of course, he ended up doing it anyway. LOL Have a happy Easter!!

  2. What a great way to use Morgan's art. This will be something that you can keep and show her again when she is grown. Motherhood is great.

  3. @cindimac I'm glad you think so. Someone just sent me a private message to say it was rather boring. :-< I may go back to it this afternoon and jazz it up to be more me. Maybe that will help

  4. @Teressa Thompson

I think your page looks great! Sometimes a simple page is what we need. I have pages that don't come out how I pictured, but this is a great way to use a piece of art that wouldn't be alive if you didn't snag it!
