Vortex Art Journal Page and Prompt

Vortex-Polaroid

Art Journal Prompt:  Vortex

Instructions:

Create a vortex or … more than one.. on your page.

Sometimes things feel like they are spinning out of control.  Today I’ll use loose circular strokes to spin those feelings out onto my page where I’ll leave them.

Example Page:

Vortex

How I Made my page:

First step – Background.  I painted the background with white paint.  Work quickly, we don’t want this to dry.

Second step – Vortex.  This is easy and loose.  Grab a large brush and play along with me.swirls-of-paint

  • Drip – put a single drop of dark blue paint on either side of the page
  • Swirl – use a large damp brush to lightly swirl the drop of paint into a spiral.  don’t put a lot of pressure and the paint will blend with the white as it works out getting light and lighter
  • Repeat – you can add as many vortexes as you like.. changed to a lighter color on the second pair.
  • Eye – add a contrasting color to the eye.  I used inktense pencils to do this but you can use whatever medium you like

Third step – Glaze.  I used a rust colored paint and glazing liquid (make your own or use water to thin your paint) to lightly swirl color around the vortexes

Fourth step – Journaling.  I used pitt pens and a waterbrush with acrylic ink to draw and journal around the swirls.

A Note from Tee:

From Crissi's page: Update .... Crissi looks amazing ... She has a beautiful complexion and color that we haven't seen in years .... she is making "great progress" there are no complications... She is halfway off the ventilator and oxygen... All is well ...

1 Wickedly Awesome People had stuff to say!:

  1. Beautiful. That colour blue is stunning. I can definitely relate to the feeling. What a neat page idea.
