Your style that is... the arting style that really moves you? The one that defines your work.
I've read interviews with great ----AND---- successful artists and they all recommend that you find and develop your style. That's apparently the key to success. Huh. Sounds so simple. Deceptively so!!! This elusive style was described as the thing that makes your work recognizable. Something that people can recognize when they look at a painting and say.. yes.. that's her/his work.
So have you found yours? I haven't found mine yet. That's exactly what I set this year aside to do.. find myself artistically. I'm stepping up and arting every day. Muse or no muse.. I art till the muse comes. It can be in my journals, on canvas, paper, napkins and the back of my hand. But I will meet that goal of arting daily.
Is this my style? No. I don't think it is. It's nice.. but it's not me.
This is closer, but still not it.
This one is pretty close.

So no.. I have not found my style yet. I'll keep searching though. Have you found yours?
(I have a headache today.. so we are thinking rather than prompting)
I feel you with the headache. I was lucky enough (truly!) to get ill on my days off.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't found my style. It keeps changing, except I know I'll never be a "realist". ; )

I think my style changes and evolves...but I do notice I tend to find a niche and stay there for a bit. I like clean lines. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't found my own style yet either. But I AM looking for it. That's why this year I've decided to step out of most swaps, take more classes and do art just for me.
ReplyDeleteI've also started to get rid of other things in my life that take time away from my art. One day I will make something and say AHA!!! That is ME!
Good luck finding your own style Tee.
I have just started trying to figure out my style. Art journal blogs have been great for giving me an idea of what I like, and what i would like to be able to do. At this point I find I mostly need to look at others' work for inspiration, although I have done a few original pages. If I can do a page day (okay, how about 5 a week..) then after a year maybe I will be part way to finding my style.
ReplyDeleteI am slowly starting to see a faint trace of my style, the way I approach a theme and execute it. But at this stage it is like a barely there whisper and I am looking forward to discovering more of it and to see how your style develops:-)
ReplyDeleteSorry about the headache- I soo know what that feels like. Poor you- hang in there.
ReplyDeleteAs for my own style...I don't think I want to be pegged just yet. I have so much that I want to do and experiment with that my style is on change mode all the time! It's true that sometimes I'm more comfortable working in one medium over another- but still- that's not constant either! I think the wonderful thing about art expression is that it can't be definable. And reinventing myself is part of the whole originality, self expression and evolving. Does that make any sense?
Hugs,
Lucy
I'm only just setting out on my quest for my style. I know what I'm drawn to (excuse the pun!) in other people's journals, but that (or rather, those) may not be my style for my own journals. I know what I don't want to do, so that's a start ...
ReplyDeleteI'm probably going to keep two journals initially, one with rich multi-layered backgrounds and the other one 'cleaner' with line drawings, a bit of colour and some doodling and pretty collage paper. That should give me some sense of what feels right ... or perhaps I'll continue with both, choosing whichever suits my mood.
I use to worry about this until one of my art teachers told me, "Don't worry about your style, who you are will fall onto the page."
ReplyDeleteFor years, my "style" was the style of what ever teacher I was learning from but slowly but surely, Who I am falls onto the page these days!
