Museless Creative Therapy Prompt and Page

MuselessPolaroid

Art Journal Prompt:  Museless

Instructions:

Make a page even if the muse is not with you today.

Yes, Creative Therapy. Do you ever have days where you just don’t feel it?  When no inspiration comes to you?  Don’t think you are alone.  It happens to everyone.  What do you do?  There’s lots of advice out there for ways to spark it.. but here’s Tee’s tip:  Art till the muse comes.  Yep.  So this prompt may not be for you today… but the days when you don’t feel it.

Example Page:

 Museless

How I created my page:

Color is my thing.  I bet you knew that by now.  Still it can break me out of a bleak museless day.  So I reach for my bright and favorite colors when I’m have a day where I’m not feeling it.

First step – Texture.  It’s a great start and I get that with text.  You can write on your page like I did or put on book pages.

  • Boxes – I drew concentric boxes on my page in water soluble graphite.
  • Text – I wrote in my boxes about how some days things are going my way and it all flows and then other days.. it just doesn’t.

Second step – Color.  Like I said above I reach for color to fill in for my muse.

  • Neocolor – I scribbled it on in the “white” spaces and yellow over the center space. Then I set the color with a wet brush.  I was not careful with my lettering or with my lines either.
  • Gesso – I did some gesso over everything to blend, blot and mute the colors.

Third step – Glaze.  If you don’t know yet (stop guys there could be new people) glazes are thin layers of paint.  You can thin the paint with water, glazing liquid or even floating medium.

  • Green Gold – I really think Francesca gave me her green gold craft paint yesterday~  LOL but I love this color so thank you dear.
  • White and Red – I also did a little white glaze in areas and a touch of red too.

Fourth step – Graphic.  It needed something bold.

  • Stencil – I grabbed a circle stencil and some turquoise paint and put on some circles.
  • Define – I used inktense in wine around the circles and my waterbrush to swish it around loosely and set the ink.
  • Dots – I thought it needed more so I used the back of my paint brush to dot on some white in the circles and the front of a torn up worn out brush to stipple on some white paint over the page.  Here’s a close up it and a full page view below.

Fifth step – Journaling

  • Frame – made the frame with blue inktense.. again loosely spreading the ink
  • Restating – I went over the text I’d written in the center.. it’s my message to myself when the muse isn’t there… just do something.  Anything.
  • Saying More – I used a pencil to remind myself that the do something goes even when I’m not feeling it.

A Word from Tee:

Not that I didn’t WANT to art today.. I just didn’t have much time during the day.  Then tonight I was feeling off… but I played anyway and guess what?  I feel better.  I love arting.  it’s the best in the world and I love that you all let me share it with you.

Thank you~

  3. LOL... you had me on the title... MUSE-less?? Not YOU!! Art does always make us feel better, maybe because amidst all the chores, life, and responsibilities it's actually something we have to take time to do for ourselves!
    Hope you're feeling much better!
    Hugs,
    Sharon
