Art Journal Prompt: Silence
Instructions:
Go to a place that gives you peace. Your back yard, the beach, the park. Your choice. Close your eyes and sit quietly for a moment. Open yourself to the world around you. What do you hear? What do you feel? Absorb those things, feel them and then put them in your journal.

How I created my page:
Silence is not about the world around you, but about the peace you can find within yourself. Absorbing and understanding the sounds and feelings in the places that give us peace will help us find peace when we can not be in those places.
This journal page is a visual reminder of the sights, sounds and feelings in my place of peace. I can recall them at any time and recapture that perfect moment whenever I need it.
| First step – Silence. I sat in my yard and captured the feelings and sounds today. It was wonderful and I stayed there for quite some time, despite the heat.
|
| Second step – Sketch. I sketched some things while I was there.. in pencil into my journal. my glass of lemonade and the mobile that the kids made.
|
| Third step – Journal. Again before the painting today. I love the water fastness of the pitt pens. Because that’s what I have… if you have sharpies or micron or any other pigment pen, they will be water fast too.
|
| Fourth step – Color. I used my watercolor crayons as a palette right out of the box with my water brushes. I also blended some colors to get different shades. “Wait! What? How did you blend the colors before you put them on the paper Tee?” I’m glad you asked.
|
| Fifth step – Outline. You can use the pigment pens or even the pilot liquid ink pens. They are water fast too. Awesome. Tee’s Tip: Don’t draw solid lines for all your outlines. Notice how the wind chime looks like a cartoon.. while the glass doesn’t? That’s the difference in the outlines.
|
| Sixth step – Background Wash. I did this last because I used something special and it’s going to lead us to another little segment of Tee’s Tips. Want to know what it is? I used my dirty paint-brush-cleaning water. Yep. That’s right. The stuff that you’ve been throwing away. That’s paint. You paid for your paint and whether you are using craft paint or professional acrylics… that’s money you are throwing out. The page on the right is with neocolor and the page on the left is with the paint water. They look the same right? Exactly my point. See my post on cleaning brushes and what to do with your paint water~~~ |
Supplies used today:
- pitt artist pens
- acrylic ink
- pilot liquid ink pen
- waterbrush
- you can never have too many of these!
- neocolor II water-soluble crayons
A Word from Tee:
I have a bird that I’m going to sketch onto my page as well. We have a nesting pair of woodpeckers in the yard. so I’ll be adding one of them to the page.
Show me your peaceful place.

My page says: Sitting still for a moment allows you to take in your surroundings in a whole new way. Silence is about a state of mine and not the world at large. When I sit quietly and let my mind rest, I hear man y things: the ice moving in my lemonade, the wind chimes tinkling and the sweet sounds of the birds living in our yard.
ReplyDeleteLovely page. I can feel the heat of the beginning of summer, the breeze through the trees and the coolness of the lemonade. Very peaceful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful page and I love the journalling.
ReplyDeleteGreat page. I was thinking that the ice tinkling in the glass and the wind chimes are both noisy but then read what you consider silence and it made sense. Nice tips. I have been absent from EDM for a while so haven't been to your blog before. I'll have to save it!
ReplyDeleteFantastic work full of creativity. Congratulations. Continue your path!
