With these goodies.. I never lack for anything when out and about~ Sometimes I throw in some liquid acrylics too.. especially white.
FAQ
Do you keep it in the car or just take it with you when you think you’ll need it?
I take it with me. I only have one set of the neocolor and inktense pencils and I often want them when I'm working on stuff at home... BUT now that it's portable.. I can art on the deck in the yard or in the living room a lot easier.
I tuck my wallet in there where the journals go and carry this baby with me everywhere. You never know when the urge to art will strike.
Where did you get the bottles you are using for your mediums?
Those are mini hand sanitizer bottles and I got them at the dollar store.
That mini mister doesn’t look like mine.. it looks bigger. Where did you get that?
The mister is another dollar store find and it also had hand sanitizer in it.
Are the black and brown water brushes filled with acrylic? (Just wondering the use of these instead of the regular water brushes)
I fill the water brushes almost 3/4 full with water then add drops of acrylic ink. The black has 12 drops of ink and the brown has 5 drops brown and 2 drops of black. (FW inks have a dropper in the cap)
I use the black to draw with. It's waterproof when dry (on everything I’ve tried it with) so I can paint right over the finished drawing.
The brown is a favorite.. and I use it to make shadows... I can draw with it too, but it's very thin so the lines are pale when dry.
Here are some examples of using these brushes:
| Brown Waterbrush | Black Waterbrush | |
Do you rinse out the brushes each time?
No, I keep them filled all the time. The cap and frequency that I use them keep them from drying out.
Any chance you’ll share a link for the tote?
I looked and didn’t find many like this out there anymore. I know that in the past I’ve seen them at wally world and craft stores. I got mine filled with scrapbooking supplies.
I did find this one by Toteally Cool.. but they are down to the last ones available.
If you ever get to Jacksonville, maybe we can art together sometime!

Awesome kit! Thanks for posting the pics. Do you keep it in the car, or just take it when you think yo'll need it?

I just happen to have a bag just like that. I have been carrying a few things in my purse, but this is ;much better!
ReplyDeleteI *love* the bag! I've just got a wee canvas bag I put the
ReplyDeletebasics in, but mostly I just art at home, so don't really need it. Yet... ;)
Love this post, I'm always trying to figure out what to bring when I go to my parent's place for the weekend. Also, unrelated, I'm really happy that the full posts can now be seen in Google Reader! Thanks for doing that.
ReplyDeleteI just love your blog! You're an endless source of info and inspiration. Are the black and brown water brushes filled with acrylic? (Just wondering the use of these instead of the regular water brushes)
ReplyDeleteExcellent post- Thanks!

Hey Ms. Lucy!

@AnMiSu You are welcome dear. I had set that thing to summary ages ago and seriously have not thought about it for years. Tami asked me to change it and I did. I really aim to please you guys.. after all this blog is sort of for me to record my progress but mostly it's for you guys.. my friends and readers.
ReplyDelete@Marylin I'm glad you like it.. get yours packed up and show me!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing what you take with you. Are the black and brown waterbrushes for washes? I've never used them that way. Looks like a handy way to go!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting this Tee. I love seeing into the world of other artists and not just their art. It seems the only places I go are to the store and library so I have no need for a portable art kit. But if I ever do, now I know what to pack.
ReplyDeleteP.S... You are definitely my favorite blogger. Love your posts.
This is so sychronicitous! Just two days ago I put together a traveling art journaling kit myself, comprised of a tiny journal (a moleskine knock-off), a waterbrush, watersoluable oil pastels, some Pitt artist pens and a drawing pencil, mini scissors, glue, eraser, and scraps of art papers. All of this fits into a 5x8 inch zipper bag. I look forward to reading more about how you use your traveling kit.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool. Great for crafting anywhere!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this! I have been carrying a tote bag with me but, like my purse, if there's room, I will fill it! And it gets HEAVY! I have two of those bags like you show and haven't fully utilized them. I love to see other artists' sketch kits as it gives me ideas and you have shared some great ones. THANKS AGAIN
ReplyDeleteGrrrrrreat post, Tee, as always! Thanks for the detailed info and photos. Any chance you can share a link for the tote? LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteBeing into mixed media, it's VERY intimidating to try and boil down to a few basics. Your list helped because it's a great starting point for me! I'd prob add some magazines (for lettering plus I'm into "paintovers" these days), a set of alphabet stamps with black inkpad, some sharpie poster paint pens and a bunch of masking/deco tape! :-D
Great idea. Love the portability.
ReplyDeleteHey Cookie... I searched but didn't find much on totes like this. They used to have them at Walmart.. but I have not looked for them there in a while.
ReplyDeleteThe closest I could find online was this one http://www.overstock.com/Crafts-Sewing/Toteally-Cool-Pink-Brown-Craft-Tool-Tote/4420727/product.html
Hope that helps!
