Water Resist Prompt and Painting

Water-Resist-Polaroid

Art Journal Prompt:  Water Resist

Instructions:

Use the Water Resist Technique in your page today.   If you have never tried it, then this is a great time to give it a shot.

Example:

I worked on canvas for the prompt today.  Well two actually.  Here’s the odd thing… it sort of works no matter how I rotate them.  Check it out.

How I created my Project:

I was really in the moment working these canvases today so won’t go into detail on every step.  Mostly because I don’t remember them all.  LOL.  However I do have a technique video for you on doing water resist.
Main Techniques used:  Water Resist, Collage, Faux Encaustic, Glazing and Texture Gels

A Word from Tee:

Try base coating with a color… or 5 or so colors *wink*…. then do a color over everything and do the water resist.  AWESOME!

Ok, I got one comment here and three emails asking for how I did this painting… So here ya go:

  2. Ask and you shall receive. I will post the time lapse video of the first couple of hours of doing this painting. The camera ran out of juice after that though.

  7. This is just beautiful. Loved the video too. I'm curious about your technique "Faux Encaustic" Did you just pile on layers of gloss medium or something else?

Thanks for your generous sharing of your knowledge.

  8. I mix different gels with interference colors from Golden and one of my favorite colors Nickle Azo Gold (linked in the supply list).

A lot of methods and teachers will tell you to do thick layer and let those dry overnight. I'm too impatient for that. I spend more time on it, but I finish in one day by adding a LOT Of thinner layers.

I could do a workshop on this if you guys wanted.

  9. Ah. the interference colors. I have some but have played with them yet. I'm also a fan of Nickel Azo Gold. :)

I'd be interested in a workshop on this. Major impatient person here.

  10. LOVE this! I was already familiar with the water resist technique, but I am totally blown away by what you have done with it. I am so inspired right now! I have a list of a hundred things to be doing right now (okay -- slight exaggeration, but that's how it seems), and now I want to be painting. I would love a workshop on this -- I LOVE these paintings!

  11. oh!I forgot to ask -- what was the white stuff that you squirted out of the tube and then spread out all over the painting toward the end?

  12. The white stuff is gel medium... just a different brand. They all mix.
