This is the story of a painting that just went wrong. I liked it at the early stages, but then I took it one step too far and it lost it’s magic. Does that ever happen to you?
In reality it’s the story of two paintings that were the salvation of each other. When I got sick, I was still trying to paint. Well.. let me tell ya.. I don’t know if I changed because of the illness or if I just really didn’t do stuff right because I came out of this thing hating everything I’d done.
Here’s the stages of that first painting that went so wrong:
Step 1 | Step 2 |
Step 3 | Step 4 |
Step 5 |
And there is it… if I had stopped there I’d have been happy with it. Really I would have. In fact, I think I shared this as a WIP because I was happy with it and where it was going.
But then.. another layer of faux encaustic and it all went wrong. |

Yep. That’s the one.. ugh and yuck and all kinds of unhappy with it.
So the thing is, you can toss the canvas or you can reuse it. I picked to reuse it.
It became the background for another painting that I did and was not that thrilled with.

This is a 6x6 square panel that I love now. When I did it in the texture town class it was without contrast and bland and boring. The examples by the teachers were not bland.. just my own panels were.
I added a few more layers with techniques that I know and now it’s something I can be happy putting my name on.
Granted I only did the first lesson in the class with actual painting and I will be going back to start over now that I’m doing better. |
So I painted some textured layers over the bigger ugly painting and mounted
the smaller painting onto the piece.

Tee, i love how your final piece turned out! It reminds me of my yard right now, those delicious, crunchy brown leaves of autumn! I can hear the squirrels rustling in them. Oh wait, I CAN really hear the squirrels through my open window, LOL.
ReplyDeleteTee, I like your end result as well. It reminds me a bit of Chinese Joss paper. Your piece feels rich and solid. The texture has so much depth and the colours sit really well together.
ReplyDeleteEach step was a painting in it's own right. I like this!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joan T. It looks very cool now!
